Privacy Policy for AnyChat

AnyChat is a local-first chat client. This policy explains what the app stores, what it sends, and what it does not collect.

What We Store On Your Device

  • Chat threads and messages are saved in a local database on your device.
  • API keys are stored in the iOS/macOS Keychain.
  • Service settings (like base URLs) are stored in UserDefaults.
  • Basic session counts — when you first used the app, and which days you used it — are stored in UserDefaults by our analytics library. They never leave your device in a form that identifies you.

What We Send To AI Providers

When you send a message, AnyChat sends your prompt and the conversation history to the provider you selected (OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, or your local model server). Those providers process the request under their own privacy terms.

Usage Analytics

AnyChat counts which providers you use, and where their requests fail. That tells us where the app needs work. It never reports your messages, your API keys, or the model names you type.

These counts carry no account and no name. The identifier behind them is hashed on your device before it is sent. Our analytics provider hashes it again, with a key we never hold. Neither of us can trace a count back to you. On macOS the identifier is new every launch and never touches the disk.

We never link them to other data. We never share them with advertisers or data brokers.

Open Settings and switch off Share anonymous usage under Analytics. It starts on. Turning it off stops it completely.

TelemetryDeck handles analytics for us.

What We Do Not Collect

  • No advertising identifiers.
  • No account system.
  • No tracking: nothing is combined with third-party data, and nothing is shared with data brokers.

Data Retention

Your chat history stays on your device until you delete it or remove the app.

Backend Services

AnyChat does not operate its own backend. Aside from the anonymous usage counts described above, and the messages you choose to send to your selected AI provider, the app talks to no servers of ours.

Security

We store API keys in the system Keychain and keep chats in local storage. We do not run our own servers at this time.
